Our Story

In 1999 I moved from London to live in Dorset, but shortly on arrival I was diagnosed with cancer. Realising whilst undergoing treatment, I would need to find something to occupy me, so I contacted Cats Protection. I was provided with a pen plus an occupant a beautiful loving Ginger Boy.

I quickly realised that this is what I wanted to continue doing I enjoyed caring for cats. So here we are 2021 with 9 pens and still very much loving what I do no matter how grim life gets I always have my cats.

Most of our cats come in with sad stories owners moving and leaving their cat to become an unwanted stray. The most common reasons for giving up a pet is children with allergies, relationship breakups or the saddest reason an elderly owner dies. The children quite often do not want it and just leave the cat, who has been a much-loved pet, to become a stray. So, when that cat finally arrives at a Rescue, we must pick up the pieces. There is no quick fix it can take months to gain their trust and love. Also gradually building up their confidence to enable them to move on.

However, this venture is not all about me I have a wonderful team of ladies who come to help care for our very special guests and we are always keen to find more! Recently I felt the need to leave Cats Protection, but I am hoping albeit in a more limited way to continue to help the local cat population. I cannot imagine a life that does not involve cats, but the cost of this type of endeavour is almost prohibitive, but I need to try and hope to succeed.
