In 1999 I moved from London to Dorset, but the idyll soon changed as I was diagnosed with cancer. Realising one needed a purpose when receiving treatment I contacted Cats Protection and was given a pen with an occupant - a beautiful Ginger Boy. I quickly realised I enjoyed caring for cats, no matter what their problem was, it was something I wanted to continue doing. So here we are in 2020 and I still love what I do. I now have 8 pens and have had some amazing cats. Most of our guests have sad stories - owners who have died (the cat will mourn this loss). Owners who move leaving their cat to become an unwanted stray, children with allergies, marriage break-ups etc. We pick up the pieces, but there is no quick fix it takes time to gain their love and trust so they become ready to move on. However, it is not all about me I do have a wonderful group of ladies who come to help care for our very special guests. Recently I felt the need to move on leaving Cats Protection, but hoping to continue helping the local cat population albeit in a more limited manner. I cannot imagine a life that does not involve helping cats, but the cost of this endeavour is almost prohibitive, but I need to at least try and hope to succeed.
